This is the 2nd time we have used Hannah at Global Journeys for a travel booking and it won’t be our last. She is responsive, efficient and very easy to deal with. Same with APT. Luxury accomodation, great food and free flowing drink. 72 people on the Mekong Serenity with 42 staff. All tours are included but do sometimes repeat themselves. Who will I be travelling with?
Most of your fellow travellers will be Aussies and Kiwis, but that’s not to say you won’t meet people from all over the world.
Are drinks included on APT trips?
APT offer a selection of complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on your river cruise, luxury yacht and small ship expedition cruises. All other trips provide drinks as per the itinerary. Cheers!
Are airport transfers included?
Yes. APT include complimentary airport transfers on the first and last day of the trip, or if you’ve booked pre- or post-trip accommodation as part of your APT package (subject to availability, some exceptions apply).
Are excursions included?
Yes. APT include Freedom of Choice excursions and Signature Experiences on their trips, which are designed to enhance your time in each destination. On some trips, there may also be additional experiences available to purchase (ahead of time and on-tour). Can I pre-book excursions?
Yes, you can pre-book some excursions via your APT Tour Personaliser, once your booking is confirmed with Global Journeys. All other excursions can be chosen while on-tour.
Do I have to pay gratuities?
APT include gratuities for all tours and cruises (unless indicated otherwise on the itinerary), so you won’t need to worry about tipping. However, please keep in mind that gratuities are not included for APT trip extensions.

Most APT tours permit one (1) bag weighing between 23kg to 30kg, plus a piece of hand luggage. If you’re travelling on an expedition cruise, Kimberley or Outback Wilderness adventure, you will need to pack destination specific gear to ensure you are comfortable and equipped for touring experiences (for example, hikes over rugged terrain, wet-landings for Zodiacs and polar expeditions). What’s included on my cruise?
APT include onboard meals, all-day beverage service (including alcoholic drinks), sightseeing, return airport transfers and gratuities. Internet is also included on most river and ocean ships.
What’s the best side of the ship to book my cabin?
There is no right or wrong side of the ship to book your cabin. You'll have plenty to see, regardless of which side of the ship you’re on, so it just comes down to your personal preference and availability of cabins.
Will I get seasick on a river cruise?
It’s unusual to get seasick on a river cruise, as the waters are calm and river ships don’t move quickly. If you’re worried, you can always discuss your concerns with your doctor before you depart.
Will I get seasick on a small-ship cruise?
You may encounter occasional rough weather when sailing in certain destinations such as crossing the Drake Passage. We recommend discussing seasickness medication with your doctor prior to departing for your cruise, as preventative medication is recommended by APT.
What currency is used on board APT ships?
On European river ships, Euro is the currency used. Ocean ships and luxury yachts also use Euro on board. Mekong and Egypt river cruises use US Dollars on board. For further currency information, refer to your final travel documents.
Where do I embark and disembark my cruise?
Details on when and where to embark and disembark your cruise will be provided in your final travel documents.
Are APT trips suitable for kids?
Not really. Some families take their children on APT tours and cruises, however it is unlikely you’ll see many, if any. Age restrictions vary depending on your chosen travel style and destination, so your Global Journeys Travel Advisor will be able to provide further information.
What is seat rotation?
Seat rotation means each day you will rotate or change seats onboard the coach to ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy front and window seats while touring.
Will I get altitude sickness in South America?
Some parts of Peru, including Cusco and Lake Titicaca, are situated at an altitude of up to 4,000 metres. At these altitudes, the lack of oxygen affects most people to some extent, until they become acclimatised. You can discuss any concerns of altitude sickness with your doctor.
Are my flights within Africa or South America included?
All internal flights, as per your tour itinerary, are included. Please be aware that certain restrictions may apply, so always read the trip notes as outlined by your Global Journeys travel advisor.
Do I need any vaccinations before I leave on my trip?
Some destinations, such as countries in Africa, require travellers to have specific vaccinations before they can travel. Please refer to your particular trip’s notes and discuss all vaccination requirements with your doctor well in advance of leaving for your trip.
When will I receive my travel documents?
You’ll receive your electronic travel documents approximately two to three weeks prior your departure. Make sure you’ve completed your checklist and provided us with all the necessary information before you go.
What happens if my plans change?

Do I need a visa?
You will need to contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your itinerary for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. More information can be found here.
Do I need travel insurance?
Australian Medicare, New Zealand ACC and private health insurance will not cover you for any medical costs while you are away. We strongly recommend that you organise your travel insurance at the time you pay your deposit.
