The Low Down

Bunnik Tours A family business based in Adelaide, Bunnik made a name for themselves in small group touring through Egypt, and now travel to all corners of the globe. All of their trips include return flights to and from Australia, so take this into account when comparing prices with other small group Operators. Bunnik tours have been specifically designed for 'the not too young and not too old' with group sizes set to a maximum of 20, and in Africa even smaller groups of 12. Bunnik trips are currently only offered to Australian residents.
Intrepid Intrepid specialise in small group adventure tours, and feature trips around the globe. With over 700 tours and 50,000 departures, Intrepid's itineraries are designed for the budget conscious adventurer, families and even adventures for those that prefer a bit of comfort at the end of each day. Like G Adventures, Intrepid also have a myriad of trips through South and Central America & Asia and operate dynamic pricing so prices can change daily - upwards if the trip is filling up, and down if they need to fill some spaces.

Recommending the best Operator for small group adventures is a tough one. It's very subjective and we think a lot depends on the region, the itinerary and the trip leader you get. This will have a huge sway on whether your trip is good, great or average. Our advice is to choose the Operator which has the itinerary and departures dates that suit you best. Look at things like inclusions, group size and other details to help make your decision.

Bunnik Tours
Bunnik Tours is a family business with a focus on crafting itineraries that really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer through a balance of organised sightseeing, special local experiences and time for independent exploration. We know that some of the best experiences are when you wander away from the group and make your own discoveries.

In creating our small group tours, we are driven by two guiding principles. First, everything we do is about your experience, which is why we only run tours with a maximum of 20 people – that’s less time waiting, more time exploring. Second, when done properly, tourism can be an incredible force for good that generates economic and social benefits in the places we visit.
Intrepid
Intrepid Travel has been taking travellers off the beaten track to discover the world's most amazing places for 30 years. Every trip is designed to truly experience local culture - to meet local people, try local food, take local transport and stay in local accommodation. Led by a local leader, our small group tours offer a sustainable way to travel off the beaten track, while giving back to the places and people that travellers visit.

Amazing, magical, memorable and…just book it - Bunnik Tours, Egyptian Discovery!   1 , QLD, Australia, Oct 2024
We enjoyed every nanosecond of our tour from the moment we were met by Saeed at the airport until he saw us off again after a most memorable tour. Bassem (our guide, very approachable and a knowledgeable Egyptologist) also deserves a special mention for making our tour exceptional.

To choose a highlight is near impossible as the whole tour was probably ...read more one of, if not the best that we’ve ever done. (We’ve visited close to 60 countries over the past ten years). The Nile River Cruise, Dendera Temple Complex, Tombs of the Nobles and the Hot Air Balloon at Sunrise over the Valley of the Kings are noteworthy though and none of the Optional Excursions should be missed!

We were lucky enough that the new Great Egyptian Museum (GEM) opened during our tour and as a special gesture Bassem took us there on the last day of our tour - so special to be able to experience a visit to the largest museum of its kind in the world - thanks Bunnik Tours!

Our accommodation was very conveniently located and well appointed. Staying in the Four Seasons at Alexandria, Steigenberger Nile Palace at Luxor and Mövenpick Resort at Aswan was a real treat!

We added an extra day before and after the tour and it was so worth it – we were able to do an unforgettable privately booked Sunset Camel ride at the Giza Pyramids (what a magical start to our time spent in Egypt) and some other wonderful tours in Cairo with which Saeed very ably assisted.

Only Egypt offers the opportunity to cruise and sail on the Nile, the longest river in the world; visit GEM, the largest museum of its kind on the planet; enter the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, the earliest known large-scale cut stone construction (built around 2650 BC) and touch the only surviving structure from the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the Great Pyramid of Giza.

And lastly – thanks Hannah Campbell and Global Journeys (since 2017 we’ve booked 10 tours with great prices quoted) for your promptness and once again fine-tuning our journey by handling extra accommodation, special requirements etc and in the past dealing with unforeseen cancellations and changes due to the Covid Pandemic. We are looking forward to our next Bunnik Tour to Sri Lanka, coming up very soon!
Fabulous tour of Northern Japan.   0 , SA, Australia, Oct 2024
Bunnik's 'Colours of Northern Japan' was an enjoyable experience. We travelled from Tokyo to Sapporo by coach and Shinkansen (bullet train) with 18 other travellers plus Mitchi, our Japanese tour guide who was one of the best. Hotels in all cities were centrally located and comfortable, most near convenience stores and cafes. Breakfasts were always ...read more something to look forward to as were lunches and dinners, mostly Japanese cuisine. ,A dinner cruise around Tokyo Bay and the scenic cruise along Geibikei Gorge were part of the itinerary.

We visited temples, castles, attended a tie- dyeing workshop and painted traditional Kokeshi dolls both of which were a lot of fun.
Most of the hotels in the north had hot springs which were relaxing after a long, busy day travelling. Autumn leaves started appearing as we travelled further north and on the island of Hokkaido they were at their best. A visit to the Sapporo brewery was interesting as was the Sake brewing experience. We travelled with a very cohesive group which always makes it more enjoyable.
We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would certainly recommend an Autumn visit to this part of Japan.
Amazing adventure through 5-Stans and Ancient Silk Road.     0 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2024
This was my 9th booking with Global Journeys, although two were cancelled due to the pandemic. As usual, my booking request, and questions were answered promptly and professionally. It was such a pleasure to have Hannah Campbell deal with my booking. I have a 10th booking pending and I’m confident that it will be handled with the same efficiency. They are an Australian family owned and operated business, have exciting itineraries and operate with a maximum group of 20. I have already recommended Global Journeys, and Bunnik Tours to my family and friends for future travel.
Turkey & Greece   0 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2024
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Turkey & Greece with Bunnik. Organised perfectly by Georgie as always! We had great tour guides in each country, both enjoying passing on their extensive knowledge. So much history in both countries and the extra tours were enjoyable. The highlight was hot air ballooning in Cappadocia! The weather was perfect throughout ...read more our trip and we enjoyed our cruise of the Greek Islands and visiting some of the islands. Looking forward to our next trip with Bunnik.
Fantastic trip to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia     2 , NT, Australia, Aug 2024
The tour was well organised with tons to see, do and learn along the way, particularly given the rich history, geography and culinary experiences available in each country. The special tour inclusions including local cuisine masterclasses and singers/ musicians in unique locations were particularly memorable. Local guides in Azerbaijan and Georgia were ...read more extremely professional and attentive to the groups needs. The local guide in Armenia was also very knowledgeable however could enhance travellers experience even further by proactively sharing practical information with the group well in advance (e.g. how long until next comfort stop).

Overall this was a comprehensive, well-paced, safe, scenic tour with a wide variety of experiences on offer. Each church, mosque, monastery visited also offered a unique experience, often with breathtaking views at each location.

TIPS: Bring good walking shoes, there’s a few challenging landscapes to navigate, but totally worth it! There are many (safe to use) bank machines available in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia to withdraw local currency from including via Australian visa cards. Currency rates are often much better locally than, for example, exchanging AUD cash at Dubai airport. Tour guides also provide opportunities to change local currencies at each land border crossing. In Yerevan, Armenia, you can also change various international currencies at the SAS supermarket (close to Hilton DoubleTree Yerevan City Centre hotel).

@ Global Journeys - Excellent organisation/ facilitation as usual. You are the only travel company we continue to book directly with.
Wonderful Small Group Tour   1 , QLD, Australia, Jun 2024
We really enjoyed travelling with a group of 18 Australians. Our tour guide, Alan, was easy to get on with and he was very knowledgeable. The tour itself was interesting and varied. We particularly like the bus tour except our local tours always seemed to end when the shops were closed for siesta. More time to shop would have been wonderful. India - Delhi to Goa   0 , QLD, Australia, Dec 2024
This tour was very interesting and another great Intrepid tour. The highlight was the Taj Mahal. We had a really good group of people on the tour and our guide Prahlad was very organised.
Tasmania Adventure   0 , VIC, Australia, Nov 2024
A good mix of travellers from Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany, Austria and Mongolia. Saw and learned a lot about Tasmania's beautiful scenery and wildlife. Accommodation is average with no wifi in the room. Food was average. It was a "one-man show" meaning the tour guide was also the driver, therefore, missed out on his scenic commentary as ...read more he was driving and we limit ourselves asking him questions so that he may concentrate on his driving. India North & South     0 , VIC, Australia, Oct 2024
I had a great time, although it was hard going at times. I booked the basic trip to North and South India so we travelled for much of the time with the locals! Most of the hotels were far better than I expected and the two Intrepid leaders were absolutely first class and very much on the ball with all details and support.

However, I need not have worried, as there were many older people as well, and we all managed the trip and survived! Global Journeys provided excellent service re the booking and my queries.
Cambodia 6 Day Tour   0 , WA, Australia, Oct 2024
This tour covers the 2 things Cambodia is known for - Killing Fields in khmer Rouge period and Angkor wat. It does this well. Tour was well organised and our tour guide was great.
Fantastic Camiño experience     0 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2024
The Intrepid Portuguese Camiño trip was very enjoyable; a great bunch of fellow walkers, an outstanding tour leader, and well thought out itinerary. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking to do a Camino trip. The walking wasn’t difficult but we did have to walk approximately 20kms each day. Most of the accommodation was very good. Global Journeys ...read more made the booking very easy.
Great customer service (Global Journeys)   0 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2024
I booked an Intrepid tour of the Shetlands via Global Journeys. Sam at Global was excellent to deal with. There were a number of issues with Intrepid and Sam worked really hard to try to resolve them. The Shetland tour itself was excellent (although the fitness rating is way off, much higher level of fitness required than stated). The guide Doug, made ...read more the tour. I wouldn’t use Intrepid again because of the problems myself and others on the tour experienced, however I would definitely use Global Journeys again. Five stars for Global & three for Shetland tour (lost stars due to issues with Intrepid).
